Entry for Autumn 2016 Examinations

Following the release of examination results in June 2016, an email will be sent to each student with failed/incomplete module(s) in the 2015-16 academic year, requesting the student to indicate their intention to enter for the Autumn 2016 exam session.  This email will be sent to students’ myCIT email accounts.

It is the student’s responsibility to act on the instructions in this email if they wish to be considered at the Autumn 2016 exam session.

The process incorporates an online payment facility.  Registration is not complete until the relevant fee is paid, as noted below.  The following deadlines and fees apply:

  • Exam entries received by midnight on Monday 4th July 2016 will incur a flat fee of €50 (regardless of the number of modules).
  • Entries received after midnight on Monday 4th July and up to midnight on Monday 11th July 2016 will incur a late fee of €150 (regardless of the number of modules).
  • You will not be able to register for any Autumn 2016 modules after Monday 11th July 2016.

The following points may be helpful to explain the various scenarios which will apply to certain students following the release of exam results in June 2016:

  • If you need to enter for a module(s) or component of a module(s) examined by continuous assessment or resubmission of project work etc., you must follow the entry procedure outlined in the email but you should check with your Department regarding the re-assessment format.  The deadlines and fees outlined above apply.
  • If you have achieved 55 credits during the 2015-16 academic year, and wish to Carry the Failed 5-credit module to the 2016-17 academic year, you must follow the entry procedure outlined in the email to ensure that your progression is considered at the Autumn 2016 Progression & Award Board meetings. The deadlines and fees outlined above apply.
  • If you only have a Deferred result(s) in a module(s) that requires you to sit an Autumn exam, no action is needed on your part to enter for the exam, and no fee applies.  Exam timetables will be published at the end of July.  If the Deferred module(s) or component of the Deferred module(s) is examined by continuous assessment, you should check with your Department regarding the re-assessment format.  This applies to students with Deferred module(s) only, having no other failed modules.
  • If you have a Deferred result(s) in any module (e.g. a Work Placement module),  and you also have a failed module(s) which may be considered for Pass by Compensation at the Autumn 2016 Progression & Award Board meetings, you are advised to follow the entry procedure outlined in the email, and re-sit the failed module(s) in August. The deadlines and fees outlined above apply.  This advice is given to ensure that you have the best possibility of progressing to the next stage of your studies.  Students should note that awarding Pass by Compensation at the Autumn 2016 Progression & Award Board meetings is contingent on the result(s) achieved in the Deferred module(s).  If you choose not to follow this procedure, there is no guarantee that Pass by Compensation will be granted at the Autumn 2016 Progression & Award Board meetings should you be unsuccessful in your Deferred module(s).  The rules governing Pass by Compensation are detailed in Section 5.11.2 of the Regulations for Modules & Programmes, available at www.mycit.ie/examinations/regulations
  • If you have a Withheld result(s),  in some cases, due to exceptional circumstances, it may not be possible to enter for the Autumn 2016 exam session.  In such circumstances the Institute will communicate directly with the student regarding re-assessment arrangements.
  • If you need to repeat a module(s) which can only be re-examined by re-attendance (i.e. there is no repeat format available in August 2016), you should contact the Admissions Office to enrol to repeat the module in the academic year 2016-17, with approval from the appropriate Head of Department.

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (joint CIT/UCC programme)

  • To register for any or all modules that you need to attempt in Autumn 2016, you must respond to the CIT email which will be sent to your myCIT email account in June.
  • You will be required to follow the instructions in this email, irrespective of whether the module is a CIT module, or a UCC module.
  • Registration on the CIT system, as outlined above, will enrol you on any CIT and UCC modules for August 2016.
  • The deadlines and fees outlined above apply to BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science students.

Repeat Modules from Previous Academic Year (other than 2015-16)

  • If you wish to attempt a failed/deferred/withheld module(s) from a previous academic year (other than 2015-16) you must contact the Examinations Office to ensure that your enrolment for the Autumn 2016 exam session is in order.
  • If you are not registered as a CIT student for the 2015-16 academic year, you will not receive the email notification in June regarding Autumn 2016 exam entry.
  • Queries should be emailed to exams@cit.ie quoting your student number.
  • The deadlines and fees outlined above apply.
