  1. What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is an academic website used by many, but not all, CIT lecturers on campus as a communication tool for their courses. They can upload lecture notes, have online discussions, and you can submit assignments through the site also. If your lecturer uses Blackboard, you will be able to:
    * View/print course documents such as the syllabus, assignments, and class readings
    * Use your CIT email to easily contact your lecturer and any student in your class
    * Read class announcements
    * View your class scores

  2. What is the URL for Blackboard?

https://Citbb.blackboard.com Blackboard can be accessed 24/7 from any Internet browser and is password protected.

  3. What do I do if I can’t login to Blackboard?

Please see http://www.mycit.ie/itsupport/blackboard/guide for details on logging in.

  4. How do I change my Blackboard password?

Your password cannot be changed in Blackboard as all data is extracted from banner on a daily basis. Use Web For Student ((https://ssb.ancheim.ie/cit/app/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin) ) to change your password.Within 15 minutes, your new password will be enabled across all other CIT web applications and you will have access using your SSO PIN.

  5. How do I get access to modules in Blackboard

The Blackboard system is integrated with the CIT registration system, so that when you are registered for a module on Banner, you are automatically enrolled in the corresponding course on Blackboard. If you cannot log in, please check that you have registered for the current academic session on Banner (https://ssb.ancheim.ie/cit/app/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin) . Each evening the Student Records System sends data to Blackboard enrolling all registered staff/students on their corresponding Blackboard courses. After this time, registered users will be able to log in to Blackboard and access the system.

  6. Are my modules from previous semesters available in Blackboard?

Yes you can see the modules from the present term and the last term in Blackboard. See the FAQ “How do I sort modules by term” for more information.

  7. When I click into a course, I see no material

This means that the instructor has not added any course content into the Blackboard course for your class. You will need to contact the instructor to find out additional information concerning the course, as the lecturer may be using a different medium of distributing information. Make sure you click on the Content tab to see data. NOTE: it is not a requirement for CIT staff to use Blackboard in their teaching and learning

  8. Can any other student see the Blackboard gradebook grades?

No. Each student will only be able to see their own grades

  9. What do I need to have to be able to access Blackboard 9.1?

You will need a PC or a Macintosh, internet connection and web browser. With those and your university computing username and password you will be able to access Blackboard 9.1 from anywhere and at any time. The following browsers are all recommended with Blackboard 9.1 – Firefox 3.6

  11. Are there any help guides for students that explain how to use Turnitin through Blackboard 9.1?

There is an online guide for students at:https://turnitin.com/static/resources/documentation/turnitin/training/Blackboard_Integration_Student_Manual.pdf

  12. How do I print a file from Blackboard?

If you’re using Internet Explorer, right click on the file name, which should be shown in underlined text, and select ‘Print Target’.
If you’re using Firefox, right click on the file name, select ‘Save Link As’ and save the file on your PC. Open the file and then use the file menu to print.

  13. Why can’t I see my course menu when I view an announcement from the Welcome tab?

If you click on an announcement from the Welcome tab in Blackboard, this only takes you into the Announcements area of the course. It does not take you into the actual Course itself and so you will not see the usual Course Menu on the left.
To enter the Course, you will need to access it via the Welcome tab, under ‘My Courses’.

  14. Where is the announcement that my Instructor has posted?

There are two types of announcements in Blackboard, ‘Permanent’ and ‘non-permanent’. Permanent announcements will always be at the top of the list. Non-permanent announcements will be listed in date order beneath the permanent ones.
So when viewing announcements in Blackboard, scroll down the page as recent announcements may appear beneath older ones.

  15. Why is there no link to one of the modules that I am taking on my Blackboard Welcome page?

The most likely explanation is that you are not registered for that module on the student record system (Banner). You can check your module registration status on Web For Student (http://www.mycit.ie/web4) . If you find you are not registered for the module that is missing on your Blackboard welcome page then you should visit the Admissions Office and ask to be registered for the module. Once registered for the module on Banner the information will filter through to Blackboard within 24 hours.

  16. Why does my e-mail open when I try to read a Discussion Board thread?

To read a Discussion Board thread in Blackboard, you need to click on the title of the thread. Clicking on the name of the person who submitted the thread will open your e-mail client instead.

  17. How do I participate in a course discussion board?

First, navigate to the Discussion Boards on your course site. Discussion Boards may be their own menu item on the left side of your course page, or they may be under Tools. Then select the forum in which you want to participate. You can participate in by posting a new message/thread or reply to an existing message/thread.
To create a new message/thread, choose "Create Thread" at the top of the page, write your message/post, and be sure to click Submit when you're finished.
To reply to an existing thread, choose "Reply" at the bottom right of the message area, enter your reply, and click Submit

  18. What is the difference between a Turnitin assignment and an assignment?

A Turnitin assignment is submitted through Blackboard to your tutor via the Turnitin system where the assignment is checked for possible plagiarism. A standard Blackboard assignment is submitted only to the Blackboard system for collection by your tutor.

  19. I thought I had submitted my assignment, test or survey but my lecturer says that I haven't. What might have happened?

When you reach the end of a test, survey or the assignment submission page you are shown two buttons to continue.
    1. "Save" - Clicking this button saves your answers so far but does not submit them to your lecturer.
    2. "Submit" - Clicking this button actually submits your test, survey or assignment to your lecturer.
If you think that you have submitted your test, survey or assignment but the lecturer says that you haven't, it is most likely that you have pressed the "save" button by mistake. Login into Blackboard and then submit to solve this issue.

  20. Can I submit an assignment after the due date?

Blackboard will allow you to submit an assignment after the due date and will notify your lecturer that it was a late submission. What this means in terms of your grade is governed by module policy. Please contact your lecturer for more information.

  21. My welcome page only lists courses from past terms. How can I hide these sites?

By default, Blackboard only displays a few courses on the welcome page, but you can change this.

When you first log into Blackboard, the box near the top right of the screen is called "My Courses". You'll see that the top bar of that box has two icons -- a circle and a square. Click on the circle icon (the icon on the left). That will bring up a screen where you can check/un-check "Display Course Name" for any of your courses. When finished click "Submit" to save your changes.

  22. I recently enrolled in a course that is using a Blackboard site, but it is not listed on my Blackboard home page. Any ideas?

When you make a registration change to your schedule the change will not be reflected on Blackboard until the next business day. If it has been more than two business days since your enrollment in a course changed and Blackboard does not reflect this change, please contact the Blackboard Support Team elearning@cit.ie

  23. I can't see the course documents. All I can see is the announcements. How can I access other parts of the site?

Sometimes when a course site opens the display window is maximized, making it appear that the course site only has one area of content. To access other areas of the site click on the arrow icon (located on the left side of the screen) to reduce the size of the display window. (See http://www.mycit.ie/contentfiles/PDF/Hide%20_Unhide%20Course%20Menu.pdf)

  24. How can I view my grades in Blackboard?

There are two ways to view your grades on Blackboard. The first is to use the "My Grades"Tool on the Blackboard Welcome page. The second is to go into a specific course site and selecting Tools > My Grades.
If your grades are not visible in either location, please check with your instructor to see whether he or she plans to make grades available in Blackboard.

  25. My teacher sent us an email through Blackboard, but I don't see it.

Please check your spam or junk folder to make sure the email was not filtered into one of those locations
