How to insert a Reference into the Text
To insert a reference into the text, put the author's surname, a comma, and year of publication in parenthesis (brackets) at the place where you make the reference or use that information.
One Author: e.g. (Smith, 1990)
Two authors put both, e.g. (Smith and Jones, 1992)
More than two authors use first name and et al. , e.g. (Smith et al., 1992)
Two or more references cited in the same place put in parentheses, chronological order and separated by semi colons e.g. (Smith and Molloy, 1961; Smith, 1990; Smith et al., 1992)
Same author and same year put in a, b, c etc. e.g. (Smith, 1990a, 1990b)
Government, Public Body, Organisation Publications: cite with abbreviation if appropriate, e.g. CSO, CIT, NRA e.g. (CSO, 2004)
But put full name of organisation in reference list
When using a direct quote, the page number (where the quote came from) should also be inserted, following a colon e.g. (Smith, 1990: 203)
