Key Terms:
Full text: This is where you can read and download the full text (everything) of an article or document.
Peer reviewed: This means that the article or paper has been reviewed by an expert or experts in this field and thus has a very high level of academic merit and usefulness for research. It will not be published if the information it contains is unproven or bogus, or considered by the expert not to be of sufficient value.
Bibliographic database: This is where the full text is not given – rather you will get the main information about the article or paper, including the author, title, journal, date, issue number and an abstract. It will tell you a lot about the book, article or paper and give you enough information from which you may be able to access the full text elsewhere.
'News' type literature: this includes newspapers, magazines, industry journals etc. that cover current and topical issues and allow students and staff to keep up to date in their field and aware of recent developments.
Question: If you are doing high level research into spectrometry, which resource would be more useful: a) A peer reviewed article on the latest developments in this field or
b) a news type article on drug analysis.
Answer: Probably the peer reviewed article, but the applications of this technology might also be covered in some news articles and could be of interest too.
