There are different options regarding how to use ZOTERO depending on your situation.

Your own computer

You can download ZOTERO on to your own computer if you have one - and then use that for all your referencing work. All your downloads, references etc. will be on your computer in the ZOTERO folder.

You can then also download the MSWord ZOTERO add on and use that to create references etc. as we have shown

Using different computers

If you don't have your own computer and you use different ones you have 2 options:

1. Firstly you can use a memory stick and download Portable Firefox from here.
With this you can download ZOTERO (again to your memory stick) and you can work from this memory stick now where every you go.

Or

2. Login to ZOTERO and set up an account
With this, you can synchronise your library wherever you go and your library will be stored on the ZOTERO server. Whenever you log in you will see your library. However, this doesn't get over the problem of using ZOTERO on a computer which doesn't have it.

We recommend that you use a portable version of Firefox on a memory stick (and back it up), if you do not have your own dedicated computer. That way you can use the stick with any computer, whether or not it has Firefox.

However, registering with ZOTERO is useful in any case since it provides a back up and other support, you can join groups etc. too.

You can still use ZOTERO with a version of MSWord on any computer by dragging and dropping references from ZOTERO into any word document and creating the citations manually
