Guests

Graduands do not need to present a ticket for admission to the ceremony, but should ensure that their guests carry tickets for presentation to stewards at the entrance to the conferring venue.  Each graduand will be allocated two tickets.  Only guests holding a ticket will be permitted entry to the conferring venue on the day.

As it is not possible due to Health and Safety constraints and guidlines, to exceed the seating capacity of the conferring venues, we regret that requests for extra tickets cannot be accommodated.  Guests with tickets will be admitted to the conferring venue and seated first.  Additional guests may only be permitted entry to the ceremonies should seating become available. There is no guarantee that additional seating will be available at any ceremony.  Graduands should make themselves aware of this in advance to avoid disappointment on the day.

We kindly ask that the seating restrictions be observed for the safety and comfort of all graduands and their guests.

Academic robes

Each graduand must wear the appropriate academic robe during the ceremony.  Graduands should pre-pay for their robes with official robe makers Phelan Conan Ltd, prior to the deadline of midnight on Sunday 15th October 2017.  The pre-payment hire price is €31.

Go to the Student Robe Hire page at www.phelanconan.com for booking robes and credit/debit card payment.  If you experience any problems booking your robe, please contact 01-4295300 or email studentgowns@phelanconan.com.

It is a graduand’s personal responsibility to ensure that you have ordered the required robe and hood from the official supplier of academic robes so that they are available for collection for your conferring ceremony.

If you have not pre-paid for your robe online it will cost €35 to hire it at CIT on the day and you may experience delays.  Please note that no cash is accepted at CIT – only credit/debits

The Ceremony

PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY

Due to the large number of people involved in the conferring ceremonies, it is important that you and your guests arrive on time.  Please ensure that your guests carry the ticket for presentation to stewards at the entrance to the conferring venue.  Only guests holding a ticket will be permitted entry to the conferring venue.

Your guests must be seated 20 minutes before the ceremony is due to commence.  Before entering the conferring venue, please switch off your mobile phones.

If you bring personal items such as a bag or camera to the ceremony, please either give them to your guests to look after, or leave them under your seat when you go on stage to receive your parchment.

DURING THE CEREMONY

Following the welcoming addresses, you and your fellow graduands will be guided from your seats by stewards to line up near the stage area.

When your name is called by the Head of Department, you should approach the stage to receive your parchment.  After you have accepted your parchment from the President and shaken hands with him, you should descend the stage and return to your seat.  When all of your graduating class have returned to their seats, the class will rise for their ovation together.

Your cooperation with stewards during this process will be much appreciated.

Please Note: If you are unable to attend your conferring ceremony, you will be conferred In Absentia and your parchment will be posted to the address on your student record in due course.  If your home address has changed please email awards@cit.ie with your new details.

AFTER THE CEREMONY

When the President has concluded his address, he returns to his seat.  Everybody stands.  The President, Registrar, and members of Governing Body lead the platform party from the stage, which is followed by the academic procession.  Graduates will be led to the area where group photographs will be taken.  Your guests will be directed from the conferring venue to the reception area.
