Sporting Highlights

Sporting Highlights 2021-2022

 

·         AFL Club came 2nd in both the Rebel Shield and the Cork Colleges Cup.  The Cup expanded this year to include a women’s team

·         The Karting Team finished 4th in the SSI League

·         The Kayaking Club came 5th at the Kayaking Intervarsities, where they won the “Evan McArdle Cup” for the Best Freestyle performance and also won “Most Improved Club”

·         The NMCI Sailing Team finished 9th in the EDHEC Sailing Cup in France

·         The Men’s Basketball team reached the Intervarsity Semi Final

·      The Badminton team reached the Student Sport Ireland Badminton League Finals Day.  

·         Two Equestrian Club members got two firsts in showjumping at the Tetrathlon

·         Well done to all who took part in our annual Fun Run & Walk!

·         Ultimate Frisbee finished 6th in the Intravarsaties

·       The Tae Kwon Do members & MTU Tae Kwon Do Club Coach  won a remarkable 9 medals at the University Tae Kwon Do Championships in Manchester

·         A Karate Club Member won Gold at the Karate Intravarsaties

·      Volleyball Club members competed in both the Student Sports Ireland League and the Volleyball Ireland Mixed League

·      Congratulations to the Sailing Club members who won the “Student Yachting Nationals” hosted in Howth Yacht Club.  MTU 1 captured the title and notable also that MTU 2 finished 8th overall

·      At the 2022 University indoor A&F Championships in Athone, MTU took home 6 medals (3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze)

·      Universities Outdoor T&F Championships MTU took home another total of 6 medals - all of them Gold!

·       At both championships MTU placed 5th overall out of 21 colleges represented

·     David Kenny represented Ireland in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games in the 20km racewalk.  David is only the second ever CIT/MTU student to reach the Olympic Games

·       The Ladies Footballers won the Higher Education Moynihan Cup
