Contraception Options

There are many methods of contraception available. It’s important to choose contraception that fits your situation and lifestyle. It is important that young people who are sexually active and who are at risk of becoming pregnant, are encouraged to talk to their Doctors about contraception.

MTU Student Health Centre provides a range of contraception methods including but not limited to;

  • the oral contraceptive pill
  • the contraceptive patch
  • the implanon (bar)
  • the mirena/ copper coil (specialist available Mondays only, contact the Medical Centre to schedule)
  • free condoms and lubricant available in the reception area (no appointment required)

All contraception appointments are free for people aged 17 to 35 inclusive per the Free Contraceptive Service Contract Scheme.

We do not supply emergency contraception, but per the Free Contraceptive scheme you can avail of this for free at any pharmacy.
