Applying to MTU Cork Campus as a mature applicant

 

How to apply for a full time undergraduate course as a mature applicant to MTU Cork Campus

 

Step 1: 

The website www.mtu.ie/courses lists all the full-time CAO courses available at MTU.

 

Step 2: 

Applications to all full time, undergraduate courses must be made online the Central Applications Office (CAO)- www.cao.ie

Applicants should follow the procedures as laid down in the CAO Handbook (www.cao.ie/handbook)

Mature students should also visit www.cao.ie/mature for additional application information. 

The CAO closing date for mature applications via the CAO is 1 February 2024 for entry to MTU in September 2023.

 

Note: It is strongly recommended that mature applicants apply to the CAO by the 1st February at 5pm. However, MTU Cork Campus does accept applications from mature students up to the late closing date 1st May at 5pm, except for applications for restricted programmes of study. 

  • Mature applicants may not be required to satisfy the minimum entry requirements. Mature Students should fill out the appropriate section of the CAO application form i.e. Tick the 'MATURE' box on the CAO form and you will be required to write a Statement of Interest. . Relevant work experience, skills gained through experiential learning and other qualifications will be considered in the assessment of these applications.
  • Mature students may also use a Leaving Certificate or QQI (Level 5/6) qualification when applying through the CAO in order to be considered on the basis of points in addition to being considered as a mature applicant on your own merit.
  • For Leaving Certificate qualifications, insert your Leaving Certificate number on the CAO form where required. You can attain your Leaving Certificate number from the Post Primary School that you attended. For applicants with a FETAC (Level 5/6) qualification you will be asked to insert your PPS Number on the CAO form if you are taking and/or have completed a FE/QQI Award.

Advanced Entry (Year 2, 3 or 4)

The Central Applications Office (CAO) processes applications for years 2, 3 and 4 of undergraduate courses in Irish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This entry route is known as Advanced Entry.

Applicants must have relevant Higher or Further Education or an equivalent to be considered for the Advanced Entry route. Decisions on admission to advanced entry courses for years 2, 3 or 4 are made by MTU Cork who instructs CAO to make offers to successful candidates.

Please ensure that you have included all relevant information (once available) that might help MTU Cork to assess your application including:

 

  • Copies of QQI Level 5 and 6 awards
  • copies of BTEC and other awards
  • Transcripts from previous Higher Education
  • A CV with information about relevant previous experience with references
  • A statement of interest
