What the Student Counselling Service Offers

 

 

 

 

 

 

The MTU Cork Student Counselling Service is a professional and confidential counselling service available to all full time MTU Cork students at no cost. This includes students registered at MTU Bishopstown Campus, MTU Cork School of Music, MTU Crawford College of Art & Design, MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, and National Maritime College of Ireland.

During your time at MTU Cork, you may experience personal and emotional issues that impact on your academic work and on your overall student experience. Some of the common issues student have come to us about include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Homesickness
  • Loneliness
  • Relationship problems
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Family issues
  • Crisis and trauma
  • Sexual and cultural identity
  • Life changes such as pregnancy and illness

The student counselling service can support you to manage and overcome these issues and make the most of your time at MTU through a variety of ways.

Supports available:

 One to One   counselling

 

 Confidential counselling with one of our team

 Currently provided remotely via zoom or teams

 Sessions last approx. 50 mins

 While this is not a long-term service, your counsellor will   provide you with information on external agencies which   may offer further or more appropriate support if needed.

 
 Group   Support

 

 During term time, groups are run by our counselling team   on a variety of topics, e.g. mindfulness

 Currently provided remotely via zoom or teams

 Groups can be accessed by   emailing counselling.admincork@mtu.ie to sign up

 Self Help

 

 Our Silvercloud Self Help Programmes can be found at the   left of this screen if you're using a laptop, and the bottom   of the page if you're using a phone.

 

 

Our dedicated and experienced team provide a supportive, non-judgmental space for students to explore personal issues.
